Synopsis
Can the soul of a nation be distilled into a cocktail? A documentary about the secret history of ‘El Club de Cantineros ’ – the legendary order of barmen who defined Cuba’s 20th Century. The tumultuous story of Cuba is revealed through the eyes of the ‘cantineros’ - barmen who serve and observe from behind the counter. The journey takes us beyond the decaying but still dazzling facades, from the Spanish American War to the Roaring Twenties, from the wild neon nights of the 1950s to a nation in transition today, the mundane, yet intimate universe of the bar scene becomes a metaphor that explores the deeper philosophical truth of life in Cuba, yesterday, today and tomorrow.
